Cider Donuts Sunday Morning

Ever since I can remember, once the leaves started to change color and the air became brisk, my sister and I knew it was the time where soon my grandfather would come knocking on the door bearing autumn goodies. What are those goodies you ask? Well they are of course Salenger's crisp and juicy apples (usually Fugi because that was my Grandpa's favorite) and the steaming, straight from the oven baked goods, like the best apple cider donuts your taste-buds have ever experienced, and the piping hot raspberry and apple mini strudels, that are just so flaky and buttery. He would come on Sunday mornings, and would pick up the Salenger's treats along his car ride to our house. Every time he would enter the small shop right off of 684, they would have all their bakery items freshly pulled out of the oven and packaged, still warm to the touch. Those apple cider donuts are one of my most favorite childhood memory. The donuts were incredible on their own, but the memories created by them makes them that much more special.
But as the years have progressed and our family situation has re positioned, those Sunday visits from dear old grandpa have ceased. So when ever there is a miracle and I get my hands on some of the best cider donuts in existence, it takes me back to a happier time. And that is essentially was good food is all about. You don't have your six year old help you out with making the lasagna because their culinary masterminds, its to create long lasting memories of making diners with mom. Food creates memories, and the best part is when you have that food later in life, and can be taken back to that specific place in time, like it happened five minutes ago. So I suggest going to Salenger's and creating some food memories of your own, to look back upon in the future.
